Edge Play

Edge play is a subjective term for types of play that are considered to be pushing on the edge of the traditional consensual play.

Edge play may involve the risk of serious, even permanent, harm, or death, exemplified by activities such as breathplay (erotic asphyxiation), fire play, knife play, and gunplay, as well as the increased risk of spreading disease, as with cutting or blood play.

What constitutes edgeplay varies with the persons involved, and also over time. For example, scat used to generally be considered to be edge play but is less so nowadays.
